The studio behind Elite: Dangerous and Planet Coaster has a new game on the way, and it's based on an "enduring movie franchise of global renown".
Video games based on movies are often bad, but when a talented team of developers are working with a property they care about, the results can be tremendous.
That's according to a press release posted this morning on the London Stock Exchange website, that suggests the English outfit is working on a new series based on an "enduring franchise of global renown". At present, it's hard to predict which franchise in particular is being referred to. Frontier Developments' Chief Executive David Braben later said that this next franchise was "an important next step in our growth..."
Last month (January 2017), Frontier Developments told investors that sales for the six months to 30 November 2016 would be approximately 66 per cent higher at £18.1m, compared to the same period a year earlier. Its second title, Planet Coaster, has been similarly successful in the theme park simulation genre.
Frontier Developments shares were up 3.2% to 286.40 pence on Monday.
Elite: Dangerous has been quite popular with fans, and a new 2.3 Update "The Commanders" will be coming soon. Is there a major movie franchise that doesn't already have a game that needs one?
