- There's a risky hostage situation going on at a maximum security prison in Delaware.
All Delaware prisons went on lockdown late Wednesday morning due to an "emergency situation" unfolding at Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna, according to the state Department of Correction. No further details about the situation were made available by authorities.
Geoffrey Klopp, president of the Correctional Officers Association of DE, said he was told by the Department of Correction commissioner that prison guards had been taken hostage at the JTVCC.
A state corrections spokesperson said it was an "isolated incident", though under protocol all prisons are put on lockdown when there is an emergency at one.
The lockdown at the Level 5 James T. Vaughn Correctional Center (JVTCC) in Smyrna caused all DE prisons to be put on lockdown.
"Department of Correction will release additional information as it is appropriate". Stay with Action News and 6abc.com as this story develops.
