White House press secretary Sean Spicer also played a role, not as the Easter Bunny like he did during George W. Bush's presidency, but instead reading the children's book How To Catch The Easter Bunny on the South Lawn.
Melania Trump, who was standing next to the president along with their son Barron during the annual White House Easter egg roll on Monday, had to nudge her husband to cross his hand over his heart as a military band and singer launched into the anthem.
The children receive wooden eggs inscribed with signatures of the president and first lady.
It will be interesting to see if The Donald insists, much like with the inauguration, that it was the biggest Easter egg hunt ever.
As the first family stood on the balcony overlooking the lawn for the American national anthem, both the First Lady and the couple's 10-year-old son Barron raised their hands over their hearts as a mark of respect.
With Ms Trump permanently residing in NY, the White House did not announce the event would even take place until March.
He said that the First Lady has worked for long just to make the event a flawless one and in line with how they want to be. "We are right on track", he said, speaking of the nation's strength under fewer than 100 days of his leadership.
Trump also took a moment to recognize his wife for her hard work in making their first Easter in the White House a special one.
The egg-rolling event, which dates to 1878, was smaller this year, down from 35,000 ticket holders last year.
The Trumps and their son also joined children at a table to make cards to send to United States service members. According to Grisham, kids who attended the previous Easter Egg Rolls in the White House were not given the chance to enjoy all the activities as the grounds were too crowded.
