14 killed in brutal tornadoes and floods in south and midwest US

A woman was killed in Missouri on Saturday because of thunderstorms and rain stroke Midwest causing the happening of tornadoes and floods.

A complex weather system that saw several central USA states hit by flooding, rainfall and blizzards between April 28 and May 1 2017 is expected to result in insured losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars, at least, according to Aon Benfield's Impact Forecasting unit.

In Arkansas, the search continued for two children separated from their mother after their vehicle was swept away by flood waters.

Across the US, nine people have been killed by tornadoes and flooding in the Midwest and Southeast.

There is evidence of at least four tornadoes, and maybe one twister, touching down to the east of Dallas.

The storms were headed east into MS and Alabama on Sunday.

The storms tore through Texas, Missouri, Arkansas and MS, with tornadoes ripping roofs off houses, uprooting trees and tossing cars "around like toys", one witness said.

Arkansas, Alabama, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Louisiana were affected by severe storms and tornadoes. Two deaths each were reported in Missouri and MS and the 2-year-old girl was killed in Tennessee after being hit by a soccer goal post, the AP reported.

A 65-year-old woman, Julia Schwede, was killed in Arkansas when a tree was blown into her home on Saturday night.

MS officials didn't immediately release details of the death near Durant.

The storms were expected to move into Alabama and continue towards MI. On Sunday, he walked to a creek near his home to look at rising floodwaters when he slipped and was swept away by the current. Severe storms including tornadoes swept through several small towns in East Texas, killing. A tornado briefly touched down in the southwestern part of Hopkins County, south of Cumby and Interstate 30.

Heavy rains also lashed the mid-western state of Missouri, with at least two reported casualties. The husband of Madelaine Krueger attempted to rescue her, the highway patrol said.

"Many areas from Louisiana up toward Missouri and into IL saw rainfall totals over 7 inches (with some localized amounts up to a foot) fall within 48 hours", Guy said.

According to the associated Press, in Texas killed four people, three in Arkansas. Authorities warned the death toll was expected to go up.

At least four were killed and 49 people were taken to area hospitals, Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett said.

A Van Zandt County official says search teams going door to door are dealing with gas leaks and downed power lines and trees. The National Weather Service said at least 3 tornadoes struck Eustace, Caney City and Canton in Northeast Texas. Downpours that began on Friday were so intense the ground was unable to absorb the rainfall, making flooding highly likely, said meteorologist Kenneth James of the Weather Prediction Center, part of the National Weather Service.

Furthermore, the convective weather event also resulted in heavy snow and blizzard conditions that were cited from the Rockies into the Plains and Upper Midwest, says Aon.

Tornado 2, around 1 mile east of Canton, has been given a preliminary rating of EF-0. Trees are overturned, power lines are down, and homes are destroyed.
