At the time officials at Carson Elementary School told her there was no evidence of bullying and that Gabe has simply fainted

According to a report obtained byThe Cincinnati Enquirer, homicide detective Eric Karaguleff described the scene from the video as several students attacking Taye and leaving him unconscious in one of the restrooms at Carson Elementary School on January 24. His mother was called to collect him however was only told her son had fainted, the Enquirer reports. CBS affiliate WKRC-TV reported Taye threw up a few times that night, so his mother took him to the hospital where it was assumed he had the flu. But around 5:30 p.m., he went to his bedroom, knotted a loop in his necktie and hung himself from his bunk bed.

Other students poked and touched Gabriel for as long as almost five minutes until a school official appeared to care for the boy, according to a Cincinnati Police Department detective's written account of what he saw on school surveillance video. He probably didn't want to say, 'Ma, somebody's bullying or picking on me, ' you know? "The article also portrays other students in the video as 'aggressors.' Video evidence does not support this characterization", the statement reads in part.

"She's devastated that her son's second to last day was so painful for him and that she didn't know and that she couldn't protect him", Branch added. Why was the video released so late?

On Friday afternoon, a handful of parents and others demonstrated outside Carson Elementary School carrying signs with slogans that said, "Say no to bullying" and "Honk for Gabe".

Gabe allegedly never filled in his mother or doctors - who assumed the child was dealing with a stomach virus - on what actually occurred with him earlier that day. System spokeswoman Janet Walsh said the video would be released "when it's ready", possibly later Thursday or Friday.

Gabriel's death comes amid an outbreak of youth suicide in Hamilton County - 13 deaths in 2016 and seven so far this year.

Gabe lays motionless for more than five minutes as other students stepped over him while pointing, nudging, and kicking him.

Gabriel's mother agreed to identify her child publicly but did not wish to release her own name.

Gabriel's mother has declined to give interviews since the news about the video broke, but in the initial aftermath of her son's death, she spoke to local television stations, identifying herself as Cornelia Reynolds and saying she believed bullying played a role in Gabriel's decision to take his life. "His vitals are fine, he's fine and she made a decision to come to the school to get him to make sure he was okay and she took him home", Branch said.

Taye took his own life while at his home on January 26, but his mother didn't become aware of the bullying incident until much later, CBS said. For now, the coroner said the manner of Taye's death is suicide, but her team will try to figure out if there were any contributing factors.

"He went to school and we have no idea what happened", Branch said. "That's why this is so frustrating for her, not knowing what really happened in that school".

Leader said Gabriel had no history of mental health issues and described him as a happy-go-lucky kid.
