The top six teams plus the top three individuals from each of four NCAA Regionals will advance to the championship round, scheduled for May 19-24, hosted by Northern Illinois at Rich Harvest Farms, in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Missouri-St. Louis (312) and Lewis/Northern Michigan University (324) rounded out the top five of the 12-team field.

"We did well today to battle and put ourselves in position to advance", said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs.

Arizona State was led by senior Monica Vaughn, a graduate of Reedsport High School, who birdied the par-5 18th hole to cap a 71 that left her in a three-way tied for fourth place.

Fellow rookie Allyson Geer finished day one with a 2-over-par 74, going 1-over-par on both the front and back nine, and is slotted in a tie for 24th place. But she found trouble on her second nine with four bogeys in a seven-hole stretch to finish the day at 4-over and in a tie for 38th place. She shook off a pair of early bogeys and made the turn at 1-over 37 following the birdie on No. 8, and the San Sebastian, Spain, native registered six pars on her back nine. "We closed strong and should have some confidence going into round two". "Par on this golf course feel like five or six under on many other courses". Metraux has now carded even par scores or better in three of her seven NCAA regional championship rounds with a 68 coming in the first round of the San Antonio Regional Championship. "We all did a great job staying in patient, which is hard to do on a day like this".

Nistrup was off the green and just outside the fringe facing a lengthy putt that started uphill and then down to the hole. Olarra totaled 12 pars to go with a birdie on the par-3 eighth. "The course is playing really tough but we have to continue to grind, take care of us and take what the course give us".

"I think we are in great shape for tomorrow", said Gumm, who is in her third season as Florida State's team captain.

The Sooners will tee off Tuesday at 8 a.m. CT for the second round of the regional.
