Russian Federation and Britain were among the worst hit countries.

In the United Kingdom, 45 organisations in the National Health Service were affected, Home Secretary Amber Rudd said on Saturday, and hospitals in London, North West England and Central England urged people with non-emergency conditions to stay away as technicians tried to stop the spread of the malicious software.

Petients have been told they can attend their GP surgeries as normal following last week's computer cyber attack - though some facilities were still seeing difficulties on Monday.

A total 12 out of 14 health boards in Scotland experienced only minor disruptions following Friday's global ransomware attack, with two escaping the attack completely.

The ransomware attack has been described as the largest-ever of its kind.

At Broomfield Hospital, part of Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust (Midlands & East), trauma patients are being diverted to Southend University Hospital.

The National Cyber Security Centre has been coordinating the State's response to the threat from the fast-spreading malicious software and has issued a series of advisory notices to Government departments and agencies.

The internet connection was back up yesterday and the hospital said patients, who were still able to text or phone, weren't affected over the weekend.

NHS Tayside had the highest number of GP practices (ten) affected by the attack.

The WannaCry ransomware attack - which locks computer systems and demands a $300 payment to allow access to them - affected machines in 150 countries, including companies such as FedEx and Renault.

Services are returning to normal, but some places are still having problems.

"If people have hospital or GP appointments they should attend unless told otherwise".

"In addition to protective real-time monitoring of national NHS IT services and systems, which were unaffected by this issue, we are supporting NHS organisations by undertaking cyber security testing and providing bespoke advice and action points".
