'American Idol' to Return 'Bigger, Bolder and Better' on ABC

The 15th season, also branded as the "American Idol: Farewell Season" aired the finale episode on April 7, 2016, crowning Trent Harmon as the victor of the season.

"American Idol", which ended a 15-season run on Fox past year, will resume on ABC next season.

On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, the network confirmed that it has signed a deal to bring back the series to Television.

"American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon". Ryan Seacrest, now under contract to ABC as co-host of the syndicated "Live With Kelly and Ryan", could even potentially return as host.

"American Idol" fans will get a new season, but on a different channel.

Seacrest, who was based in Los Angeles during the "American Idol" run, said he will live in NY during the week and then fly back home to Los Angeles for the weekends.

Original judge Randy Jackson was also asked recently if he'd consider a return on a revived "Idol".

"How does "Idol" live for the next 15 years?" he said at the time. At the top of its game, the American version of the show garnered monster ratings, ranking number-one with adults 18-49 for seven consecutive seasons.

This is the return of American Idol.

"I had said at the end of the series, 'Goodbye for now, ' hoping somewhere it would come back", Seacrest says (quote via People).

NBC, which is now home to "The Voice", was also reportedly interested in picking up "Idol" at one point. Seacrest, on the talk show Monday, said he had only learned of the revival last week when he read a news story about it and made a call. "I don't know if I can host [American Idol]", he says. Are you excited about American Idol coming back?
