Anthony Joshua comes back from the brink to halt Wladimir Klitschko

Anthony Joshua called out fellow British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury after the fight

Wladimir Klitschko was met with boos as he began his ring walk into Wembley Stadium to fight Anthony Joshua.

Joshua knocked out Klitschko in the 11th round, sending the Ukrainian crashing to the floor.

The Briton wobbled Klitschko with a left before landing a series of clubbing blows, including a cracking right uppercut, which sent the Ukrainian to the canvas.

Joshua said after his defeat of the 41-year-old Klitschko - who has already said he will only fight on in the event of a rematch - that his victory did not match the high of winning Olympic gold at London 2012. "Just give it a go and you never know the outcome". "It's really sad I didn't make it".

With Joshua dragged into the longest fight of his career, he tried to claw back control with two big right hands in the ninth, but was immobilized by a piston-like right from Klitschko in the 10th.

"Two gentleman fought each other, Anthony won tonight, I (was) waiting to give but all the respect to you guys, thank you. Every time I come over here I get much love, so if I had to come over here, I would come with open arms, without hesitation".

"To be exposed in front of 90,000 people with your lack of experience is brutal but to come through the other side is just one of the most remarkable performances I've ever seen".

He had blamed his unexpected defeat by Tyson Fury in November 2015 - his first for 11 years - on an "off-night", but eliminated that reason here.

"As I said from the get-go, it will be a boxing classic and may the best man win", the 27-year-old said.

WBC champion Deontay Wilder was ringside on Saturday night and the American said he would relish a unification fight with Joshua.

"I want to get stronger".

"I tried to recover and then step it up in the later rounds, that was the plan".

"Klitschko stole rounds, very cleverly and Anthony played the game a bit", he said. Klitschko was the first to drop in the fifth round, but he rallied to put Joshua on the canvas in the following round with a punishing left hook. But it was clear by the crowd's reaction as he came back to win that it was a lot more to many fans.

Klitschko got up but when Joshua started to pile on the pressure referee Fields had no option but to save the fearless Ukrainian from further punishment.

This is boxing - I'm only going to improve. "Is that the fight you want to see?"

Lennox Lewis paid tribute to Klitschko for getting up twice in the 11th from devastating Joshua punches.
