3 suicide bombers die attempting to enter varsity – NEMA

Suicide bombers have in 2017 tried to carry out repeated attacks on the University of Maiduguri.

Locals told Anadolu Agency that those injured included soldiers, members of the government-backed vigilante group and personnel of the varsity's security, without mentioning the specific number of people hurt in the incident.

Three male suicide-bombers were killed while attempting to attack a female hostel in the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), the Borno State capital, on Thursday night.

An explosion was heard in the scholol premises at about 11pm while another bomber detonated at about 12am, it was gathered.

The spokesperson said the incident occurred around 11pm on Sunday night, April 9.

In an attempt to enter the female hostels, they were intercepted by security operatives.

There were twin bomb blasts in the university last Saturday in which two soldiers and two university security men lost their lives alongside the male suicide bomber.

In an electronic message issued by Borno police public relation officer, DSP Victor Isuku to newsmen in Maiduguri on Friday confirmed that three university security guards were injured in a bid to stop the suicide bombers.

Two suicide bombers have detonated bombs in the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), reports say.
