CW Releases Fall Schedule, 'Dynasty' On For Wednesdays

Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash: The CW Planning Another Big Crossover for 2017-18

A reboot of the classic nighttime soap "Dynasty" is about to cozy up with the teen noir take on the Archie Comics universe on the CW next fall - that's a real sentence in 2017.

The CW presents its 2017-18 primetime schedule to advertisers, affiliates, and national media today at the New York City Center in New York City, with the multi-platinum, multi-Grammy Award-winning rock band Muse opening the show with the worldwide debut performance of their new single, "Dig Down".

Also new this fall is a remake of the 80s soap, Dynasty. To make room for their unveiling, the network has relocated some of its veterans.

Arrow is moving from Wednesday to Thursday at 9:00 PM, following Supernatural.

The rest of Greg Berlanti's superhero dramas stay intact, with Supergirl still on Mondays at 8 p.m., followed by new military drama Valor at 9 p.m. ET.

CW President Mark Pedowitz said the network won't have more than four DC series at a time, but that it will continue making them "as long as people want to watch it". However, this move pits Arrow up against NBC's hit show This Is Us-definitely cause for concern. The show follows an elite unit of U-S Army helicopter pilots on top secret missions. Pedowitz said he has been trying to find a military-themed show for many years. "I think it is not unlike with what we had with Riverdale last season", says Haskins of mining the audience that is familiar with the name and recruiting new viewers drawn by the "new take".

"Supernatural" will kick off Thursdays and is followed by "Arrow", which aired on Wednesdays this season. Also, it has the blessing of creators Richard and Esther Shapiro; fills the same timeslot it had back on ABC in the '80s; and could even include some vets. Pedowitz said he is "completely open" to inviting cast members from the original, such as Joan Collins, to appear on the new show.

Midseason brings in Black Lightning and Life Sentence with Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale, along with returning favorites The 100, iZombie and The Originals.
