Emre Can determined to seal top-four finish despite loss

Two goals from ex-Red Christian Benteke cancelled out Philippe Coutinho's superb free-kick and dented Liverpool's chances of finishing in the Champions League.

Can, a regular in Klopp's first-team plans, pulled no punches in his assessment and claimed it was a "stupid" mistake which led to the loss.

Klopp's team stay third but are five points behind second-placed Tottenham Hotspur having played two games more.

Juergen Klopp's side remain the Premier League's top scorers, but they have conceded more goals than nearly every other team in the top half of the table.

"There are games to play and we will be ready".

"That is why I accepted the challenge with Palace, and we need to be the best we can as a team to succeed".

"We are very happy obviously".

"It was stupid from us", Can told the club's official website.

"All the set-pieces in training we had done very well but again we concede a goal after a set-piece". They had counter attack threat but again out of nothing we gave them an opportunity from a corner.

"If we win the last four games, we will reach the Champions League".

Defeat left Liverpool with the mounting of trying to hold on to a Top 4 spots, especially after Manchester United beat Burnley 2-0 earlier in the day and the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City were busy with FA Cup commitments.

Can has made 36 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this season, scoring four goals and supplying three assists.

"We have to look forward".

The Belgium striker, who was allowed to make a £27million move to south London in August, haunted his former boss Jurgen Klopp as Palace came from behind to win at Anfield. "I know what everyone is saying, that we have to win it, do this and that".

Benteke's Anfield career never took off, but he has excelled there as a visiting player, and this brace gave Palace a victory which lifts them all the way to 12th, seven points clear of the drop zone.
