Former head of Central Intelligence Agency says it knew of Trump team Moscow links

White House senior adviser Jared Kushner left and his wife Ivanka Trump watch during a visit by President Donald Trump to Yad Vashem to honor the victims of the Holocaust in Jerusalem. The Washington Post is reporting that

USA intelligence agencies concluded in January that Moscow tried to tilt the election campaign in Trump's favor, including by hacking into and leaking the emails of senior Democrats.

Unfortunately for the destroy-Trump crowd, their Russian Federation conspiracy narrative has been undercut by none other than the anti-Trump former CIA Director, John Brennan.

The leaders of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee said on Tuesday they would subpoena two of Flynn's businesses after he declined to hand over documents in its separate Russian Federation probe. "They try to suborn individuals and they try to get individuals, including US persons, to act on their behalf either wittingly or unwittingly". Brennan described Russia's goals as twofold: to smear and damage Hillary Clinton, and to bolster her opponent - though the Russians themselves did not necessarily believe Trump had a chance to win the presidency. That warning took the form of a phone call between the head of the Russian intelligence service, the FSB, and the head of the CIA. Not only would it damage relations between the two countries, he said, but it was also certain to backfire.

In essence, Brennan admitted that the Obama administration knowingly let the Russians continue their interference in the US election with only a warning that U.S.

The intelligence was among the clues, including information about direct communications between Trump's advisers and Russian officials, US officials received previous year as they began looking into Russian attempts to disrupt the election and whether any of Trump's associates were assisting Moscow, the newspaper said.

In addition to alerting the FBI last summer, which is responsible for counterintelligence investigations, Brennan said he created a special unit in the CIA to monitor and analyze intelligence about Russian's interference in the election, inviting the FBI and the NSA to participate. He said Trump's reported "spontaneous" sharing of so-called "code-word" intelligence from Israel with two visiting Russian diplomats had violated "two protocols" of behavior between spy agencies. Referring to the information revealed by Trump, Brennan said it had neither gone through "the proper channels nor did the originating agency have the opportunity to clear language for it".

A victim of Russian interference?

Brennan told the House intelligence committee on Tuesday that he was the first USA official to call out the Russians for their activities.

Separately, Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to Trump's presidential campaign, told Reuters via text message that he would testify before the House Intelligence Committee but was "still working out details".

"I have studied Russian intelligence activities over the years, and I have seen it manifest in many different of our counter-intelligence cases and how they have been able to get people - including inside CIA - to become treasonous".

Despite those warnings and efforts at retaliation, Brennan said that Russian Federation was likely not dissuaded from attempting similar interference operations in the future.

He also confirmed to ABC News that he has retained legal counsel. Brennan, in his priceless response, reminded Gowdy that the committee on which he's serving already has that information - the stuff that the Central Intelligence Agency shared with the Federal Bureau of Investigation - but that it can't be aired in public because "it is appropriately classified". "I know there was a sufficient basis of information and intelligence that required further investigation" by the FBI, he added.

And since the last hearing Trump fired Comey, the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to oversee the FBI's Russia investigation and it was revealed the president allegedly tried to halt the FBI's investigation into his former national security adviser, who was sacked over conversations he had with the Russian ambassador.

Senior Russian intelligence and political officials discussed how to exert influence over then-candidate Donald Trump through Russia-friendly political advisers last summer, according to US intelligence described to the New York Times. Coats took the call. But Stefanik's position matches that of many other leading Republicans, who have moved cautiously when speaking in public about the possibility that their party's top official had inappropriate ties to Russian Federation and Vladimir Putin. Reports have also emerged of Manafort being investigated on suspicion of money laundering related to his ties to Russian Federation.
