A worldwide ransomware attack on Friday hit organizations across multiple continents, infecting FedEx and bringing down operations for at least 16 of the U.K. National Health Service's facilities.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd will chair a meeting of the Government's emergency COBRA committee later.

Russian Federation and Britain were among the worst hit countries.

The situation in Ireland is being monitored by the National Cyber Security Centre in the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment.

A COMMUNITY health service is operating normally after concerns it had been impacted by a cyber attack which has affected the NHS.

The NHS was still recovering today, and although hospitals in Sheffield and Doncaster said they were unaffected, health chiefs in those areas asked members of the public to "remain patient" as GP practices got back up to speed.

Digital managers in Britain had been bracing themselves Monday for a possible second cyber attack, but in the event there was no new attack.

The virus took control of users' files, demanding payments.

East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust, which runs five hospitals in the county including William Harvey in Ashford and Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother in Margate confirmed it had avoided an attack. Cyber security experts said it could be the biggest cyber-attack of its kind ever.

"If people have hospital or GP appointments they should attend unless told otherwise".

On Friday, 47 English trusts were victim to the attack and 13 NHS organisations in Scotland were also affected.

A spokesman for the trust said: "Barts Health staff have been working tirelessly over the weekend, using tried and tested processes to keep patients safe and well cared for".

'It's an global attack and a number of countries and organisations have been affected, ' British Prime Minister Theresa May said.

You can protect yourself by installing updates, running anti-virus software and using firewalls.

Wainwright warned the healthcare sector "in many countries" was particularly vulnerable, but that all organizations should ensure they prioritise cyber security and update their systems.
