Marcus: Why didn't Trump want anyone to hear his conversation with Comey?

March 20, 2017: Comey testifies to Congress that the FBI has been investigating possible links between Trump associates and Russian officials since July, the same month he held an unusual news conference to discuss the investigation into Clinton.

The river of congressional concern over Trump's actions turned to a flood after House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, a Trump loyalist, demanded Tuesday that acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe produce within a week all information it has related to the Comey-Trump meeting at the White House.

Mr Trump met Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, and the Russian ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak, at the White House on Wednesday last week.

"My view is that there are a lot of pieces coming together", said Peter Zeidenberg, a former public corruption prosecutor.

U.S. President Donald Trump's sharing of highly classified intelligence with Russian Federation could cause a problem with efforts to seek cooperation from allies in dealing with North Korea, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee said Wednesday.

Flynn left his post in February after media reports that he misled the vice president about his contacts with Russian Federation. "I hope you can let this go".

The judiciary committee's request comes amid an investigation by the Senate Intelligence Committee into the Trump administration's Russian connections, which is separate from the one initiated at the FBI by Comey.

The development comes as the Trump administration faces questions over why and how the president fired Comey last week as the FBI was investigating whether Trump's presidential campaign was connected to Russian meddling in the election. Comey has previously said he would only testify in an open session.

The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee want FBI Director James Comey's notes.

Defenders of Trump have been signaling they may attempt to turn the spotlight back on Comey, asking why the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director didn't blow the whistle or quit after the February conversation with Trump.

"I think personally, I think we will hear more from my Republican colleagues", Warner said. The candidate who threatens to jail his opponent easily becomes the president who instructs his FBI director to close an inconvenient investigation.

Senator John McCain says that the ongoing scandal surrounding Donald Trump isn't comparable to Watergate - it is developing much too fast for that. "I do have the ability to unilaterally issue a subpoena if need be ― hopefully, if this memo exists, they will turn it over voluntarily and swiftly, but we are writing a request as we speak".

Republican Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr on Tuesday said the burden on proof is on the New York Times, which first reported the Comey memo, to publish it.

The Trump administration has denied that Trump said what it is being claimed he said in the memo.

When asked about the issue, Representative Justin Amash, of MI, said interfering in an FBI investigation into Mr Flynn could be the basis of such a case "if the allegations are true". In January, Trump reportedly sought a pledge of loyalty from Comey and failed to obtain it. Comey said he replied that "I agree he is a good guy" but said nothing to Trump about limiting the investigation.
