Mets SS Cabrera not seriously injured on left thumb

This led to a ridiculous amount of speculation as to what may have sparked the team to make such a harsh decision, and former Mets All-Star Paul Lo Duca gave us just a bit of a hint as to what may have caused the whole situation.

The New York Mets scratched Matt Harvey from his scheduled start and suspended him for three days without pay for a "violation of club rules".

The Marlins struck quickly in the first inning.

If Cabrera is sidelined for a long period, NY could bring up 21-year-old shortstop Amed Rosario from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Mets may learn Sunday the prognosis for shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who left Saturday's game in the third inning with a left thumb injury suffered while he was diving for a single by Marlins left fielder Marcell Ozuna.

The Mets were on a roll, winning three straight, scoring five runs or more in 9 straight games and then came Sunday. The six-run deficit would be too much for these Mets to overcome, even the way they've been hitting lately. The Mets are already 6.5 games behind the first-place Washington Nationals. The final score was 7-0.

They think he is one.

Harvey was the story of the day, however. The Mets seem more invested in Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom as their future over Harvey. Instead, his future with the club has become the cloudiest it's been in his six years here.

However, Kristie Ackert of the Daily News is reporting that Harvey's suspension was a response to a multitude of issues going back to last season. He apparently had been racking up the ill will for several months and manager Terry Collins had finally had enough.

Harvey has reportedly filed a grievance in response to the suspension, which is a pretty clear indication that the relationship between Harvey and the Mets is as damaged as it has ever been, perhaps beyond fix.

"He was in quite a bit of pain on the field", Collins said. This meant he would miss the entire 2014 season but the success of the procedure meant a return for 2015, when he recorded his best season, going 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA. Say it again: You want to make the baseball gods laugh when it comes to young pitchers? The team would consider adding top prospect Amed Rosario to the roster if a need arises, but if Cabrera could avoid the disabled list it would lessen the need to add the touted youngster.
