Mission improbable for Atletico and Monaco

No side has ever recovered from a two-goal deficit in the semi-finals, while it is sure to be an emotionally-charged atmosphere in what will be the last European tie at Atletico's intimidating home before the club moves to the state-of-the-art Wanda Metropolitano.

It's been an inconsistent season by Atletico Madrid standards, and they have a mountain to climb at home when they face Real Madrid in the second leg of the semi-final.

It looks this this may be the end for Atletico Madrid. But Francisco "Isco" Alarcon netted a crucial away goal for Madrid before halftime to secure a 4-2 victory on aggregate and a spot in the final against Juventus on June 3 in Cardiff.

Will Real advance to the finals, HollywoodLifers?

"We will try to go in to the game as we have been doing so far".

However, a goal from Isco shortly before half-time effectively killed the contest and Madrid saw out the second half in more comfortable fashion to progress to the final with a 4-2 aggregate win.

Atletico has been sending a series of tweets in the past few days to praise its fans for having unconditional love for the team despite the results, accompanied by the hashtag "they can't understand".

Atletico went in hunt of the opening goal from kick-off and it took a fine low save at the near post from Keylor Navas to stop Koke's prodded effort from giving the hosts the lead after only five minutes. "There are also people here from the hood, humble, with values??and manners".

Despite heavy rain, Atletico fans stayed to cheer their team long after the final whistle and the players returned from the changing rooms several minutes after the game to greet the supporters.

Atletico Madrid's normally impressive defense failed spectacularly in this game, potentially dooming their Champions League chances.

Real have won only one of their last eight league games against Atletico but have found the magic formula against their rivals in the Champions League, which winger Lucas Vazquez said was due to their history in the competition.

"We know it is very hard, but we need to go step-by-step, we need to keep a clean sheet", Saul said.

Zidane, however, was delighted with his contribution, saying afterwards: "I don't know how Benzema got out of there, but.in football it's not only about the goals". Meanwhile, Juanfran should be returning tonight at right-back for Atletico.

Marshalled by veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus have conceded just two goals in the Champions League this season and offered Monaco's free-scoring attack hardly a sniff last week.
