Olympiakos owner seals takeover of Forest

The protracted deal has been in the pipeline for several months, but was in doubt after it emerged Marinakis was facing allegations of match fixing in his homeland of Greece, meaning he failed to meet the criteria set out in the EFL's Owners and Directors test.

Marinakis denied the accusations in an interview with the BBC, saying they were the invention of people who are "jealous" of his success with Olympiakos, Greece's nearly perennial champion over the last 20 years.

He was previously accused of being involved in the bombing of a referee's bakery but faced no action.

After forming an English company called NF Football Investments Limited, he and another Greek investor, Sokratis Kominakis, have purchased the full 100% of Forest's shares after approval from the English Football League.

"Forest is one of England's oldest clubs and one with a proud history of national and worldwide excellence".

Evangelos Marinakis' first announcement included a promise to cut season ticket prices for next season, a new board including a chairman and a pledge to appoint ex-players to other senior roles.

Shipowner and businessman Marinakis has stated his plans to make Forest "the model club" in England for interacting with supporters, after a hard season in the Championship.

Greek shipowner Marinakis, a divisive figure back in Greece who has always been investigated for allegations of match-fixing but has repeatedly rejected any wrongdoing, is heading a consortium that took over 100 percent of the club. The controversial Greek businessman and owner of Olympiacos has vowed to return the Championship side to "the glory days". Our objective is to bring back the glory days.

Warburton came within a game of being relegated to the third tier of English football with the former European Cup winners.

The 49-year-old told BBC Sport that claims he is involved in criminal activity had been made up by "jealous" opponents in a bid to discredit him adding: 'I have nothing to be afraid of and to worry about as I have done nothing wrong'.

"The EFL conducted an Owners' and Directors' test and concluded that none of the persons who would be relevant persons are liable to be disqualified under the test".
