Nicky Hayden'critical after bike crash

Nicky Hayden remains hospitalized in serious condition two days after being hit by a vehicle on his bicycle while training on the Rimini coast in Italy.

Nicky Hayden was the 2006 World Champion with Honda, beating Sprint Valentino Rossi.

A morning bulletin from the Bufalini Hospital in Cesena where Hayden has been taken confirmed he remained in intensive care and that there had been no change in his condition.

Honda said he was taken initially by ambulance to a hospital near the coastal resort of Rimini before being transferred to Cesena.

The 35-year-old has sustained multiple injuries including "serious cerebral damage". "The prognosis remains reserved".

"Nicky often visits Motor Ranch, where I'm always amazed to see him act, and try to share secrets, and fight together, because he is one of the fastest flat-trackers in the world, and before racing on the asphalt he won the most American Flat Track race Prestigious as Peoria TT", Rossi said.

Hayden's team issued a statement, which said: "As well as having his fiancee Jackie by his side, Nicky has now been joined by his brother Tommy and mother Rose who arrived in Italy from the United States earlier today".

"The young man, who is still in the intensive care unit of Cesana's Bufalini hospital, has suffered a serious polytrauma with subsequent serious cerebral damage", read a statement from the hospital. He was rushed to the hospital, and a recent update from his team confirms he is in "extremely critical" condition.

"The most lovely moment I have about Nicky is when he shakes my hand after an unpleasant race at Valencia 2015". For him it was his farewell to MotoGP, I had just lost the world [title]. (The) supporting look inside his helmet is one of the few positive memories I have of that day.

"Forza Nicky, we're all with you".

Hayden last raced in the MotoGP championship in Spain in September 2016 as a stand-in for injured Australian Jack Miller at the privately-run Marc VDS Honda team.
