Officials blame Erdogan security forces for 'brutal attack' on Washington protesters

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Thursday he wanted Brett McGurk, the USA special envoy to the coalition against Islamic State, removed from his post, saying he supported Kurdish militants. "Alarmingly, this behavior is indicative of the broad crackdowns on political activists, journalists and religious freedom in Turkey that have greatly harmed Turkish democracy in recent years", said Royce in his letter.

Erdogan was in Washington, DC to meet with President Donald Trump (pictured together on Tuesday), who praised him as a loyal ally in the battle against Islamic extremism. After their meeting, Trump praised Erdogan as a stalwart ally in the fight against the Islamic State group and the PKK, the Kurdish group that has been fighting Turkey and complicating USA efforts to fight ISIS in northern Syria. "It would be beneficial if this person is changed", Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told NTV television.

Arizona Sen. John McCain said in an interview on Thursday that the USA government should throw Turkey's ambassador, Serdar Kilic, "the hell out of the United States of America".

"Customary global law affords heads of state and members of their entourage with inviolability from arrest and detention", the official said. Seconds later, men in suits working in some capacity for the Turkish government go after the protesters.

"This is Erdogan's security detail".

"We should throw their ambassador the hell out of America", said Senator John McCain, R-Arizona, on "Morning Joe" when he was asked about the incident. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said, "Violence is never an appropriate response to free speech".

"After all, they violated American laws in the United States of America, so you can not have that happen in the United States of America".

There are several reasons that's probably not going to happen, but the most persuasive is video that shows Erdogan pulling up outside the Turkish embassy in a Mercedes Benz sedan, moments before the brawl occurred.

The embassy blamed the violence on groups linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), saying they "aggressively provoked Turkish-American citizens" who had gathered to greet Erdogan.

Using noise isolation techniques, Ferad says that the words "dalın diyor, servet abi dalın diyor" can be heard coming from the presidential guard just after Erdogan is seen speaking with his bodyguard.

The violent clash on Tuesday evening left one police officer and 11 other people injured, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Erdogan's bodyguards were involved in two other attacks on US soil in 2016: during a speaking engagement at the Brookings Institute in April and at the funeral of Muhammad Ali in June. "As I have previously done so, I have been frankly communicating our expectations with regard to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, which we have notified our friends of their involvement in the failed coup of July the 15th in Turkey", the White House translates Erdogan's statement as reading.
