Anaheim Ducks defenseman Kevin Bieksa battles against Nashville Predators center Ryan Johansen in the second period of Game 4 of the Western Conference final in the NHL hockey Stanley Cup playoffs Thursday

As long as their odds once were, the Nashville Predators also have the luxury of some extra rest after knocking off the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference final Monday.

A date with history awaited the Nashville Predators on Monday night. The Pittsburgh Penguins now have a 3-2 lead in their series against the Ottawa Senators.

Pekka Rinne, Predators - Rinne, like much of these playoffs, was sensational, stopping 38 of 41 shots.

Austin Watson, who had five goals in 77 regular-season games, added four goals in the series. Over their final 42 games they were 24-13-5.

"Amazing feeling. It's a dream come true, but it's a amusing, funny thing, though, when everything that is happening around us, you still feel hungry and, you know, now we have a chance to play for the cup", Rinne said.

Rinne has been the difference all postseason, starting with a two-shutout performance in the Predators' first-round sweep of No. 1 seed Chicago.

Laviolette joked that probably means he's been fired a lot.

"Our guys know the big picture", he said of his Predators. "And when that time comes, we'll be ready". Tonight the Penguins can closeout their series with the Senators with a Game 6 victory.

The Predators lost No. 1 center Ryan Johansen to a serious thigh injury after Game 4, and it was Sissons who stepped up to replace his offense.

When the score was 1:1 in the final series of the Western conference moved to the "Bridgestone Arena" in Nashville.

With the score 3-3 and the Predators being outshot 39-15 at the time, Nashville regained the lead with a stunning one-timer from Sissons at 14:00 of the third period, three seconds after killing Roman Josi's minor for delay of game. "Obviously I don't think I could have dreamt of this moment, scoring a hat trick in a Western Conference clinching game".

Filip Forsberg has been pretty good for a while now with an average of 30 goals and 62 points in his first three full National Hockey League seasons. Now, yeah, we can make some definite improvements in our execution, but our effort was there and we were a desperate hockey club right from the opening faceoff.

DEPTH SCORING: Two-way center Ryan Kesler played his usual excellent defensive game, but scored just one goal in 17 playoff games. They drafted and developed Viktor Arvidsson, a fourth-round pick in 2014 who this season tied for the team lead in goals (31) and points (61).

The Finn had two special seasons (2010-2012) early in his career with Nashville - a Vezina trophy finalist in each - but was something closer to average after that.

Trisha Yearwood led the crowd with a pitch flawless rendition of the National Anthem, in which she followed up other stellar performances in previous games from Little Big Town to Kelly Clarkson to Carrie Underwood. On Monday night, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks' wife, became the latest to perform. Former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George waved the rally towel to crank up the fans.

Fans filled the plaza outside the arena and the park across the street during the game before pouring onto the street lined with honky-tonks to celebrate.

The Ducks peppered Rinne with pucks. He high-fived those around him after the "feat", and went back to his seat to go enjoy the rest of the Predators' 6-3 rout over the Ducks. Bernier was the victim of a fluke deflection on Nashville's first goal but couldn't give his teammates a boost by making a game-changing save.

Watson, a role player, had two goals in the game. While Nashville managed 2-0 and 3-1 leads, there was plenty of drama in this one, as the Ducks did not go down easily.

Rinne, interestingly enough, hasn't always been the most effective playoff performer.
