President Trump says special counsel in Russian Federation investigation 'divides the country'

Mueller has been hired to lead the ongoing FBI investigation into Russia's meddling into last year's US Presidential Election and to find out whether some members of the campaign team of Donald Trump were complicit in the whole Russian game that meant to benefit Trump's campaign. "And I think this shows a very divided country". "As for Mr. Comey, the former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation coming before the committee - if I were Mr. Mueller, I would jealously guard the witness pool".

"It also happens to be a pure excuse for the Democrats having lost an election that they should have easily won because of the Electoral College being slanted so much in their way". That's all this is. "Because it shows we're a divided, mixed-up, not-unified country. Mr Rosenstein has done the right thing", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor.

Trump's early morning tweet storm comes day after his Justice Department appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the the agency's Russian Federation investigation, a decision the president appeared to accept after it was announced.

In a widely-shared tweet-thread, the Harvard-educated attorney described Rosenstein's place in the Department of Justice and speculated about Rosenstein's actions in the run-up and aftermath of Comey's firing by President Trump.

Washington- US President Donald Trump criticized on Thursday the appointment of a special counsel to lead the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 US election.

Mr Mueller will have sweeping powers and the authority to prosecute any crimes he uncovers.

The president spoke at a lunch with news anchors at the White House.

Associates of Mr Comey has also claimed that the president asked him to pledge his loyalty shortly after taking office. In this case, painting himself as the unfair target of an investigation that was widely applauded across the political spectrum may instead serve to highlight his isolation.

"A thorough investigation will confirm what we already know - there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity", he declared.

At a press conference later on Thursday, Trump said, "I respect the move but the entire thing is a witch hunt".

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has told senators that he knew FBI Director James Comey was going to be fired even before he wrote a memo that provided a basis for Comey's dismissal. As special counsel, Mueller can bring matters to a grand jury, which would then determine whether to issue criminal charges.
