Republicans Restrained In Response To Trump Intelligence Sharing With Russia

H.R. McMaster added that none of the US officials present for the president's Oval Office meeting with the Russian foreign minister last week "felt in any way that that conversation was inappropriate".

McMaster, in a White House briefing, said: "In the context of that discussion, what the president discussed with the foreign minister was wholly appropriate to that conversation and is consistent with the routine sharing of information between the president and any leaders with whom he is engaged".

But Opposition Democratic party and several lawmakers from Trump's own Republican party expressed concern over the episode. Chuck Schumer is calling on the White House to provide the transcript of President Donald Trump's meeting with Russian diplomats to the congressional intelligence committees "as soon as possible".

The newspaper said the intelligence Trump shared concerned a Daesh threat about how to make laptop bombs that prompted the U.S. and U.K.in March to ban electronic devices in cabins on flights from Muslim-majority countries.

According to the Washington Post newspaper, Trump jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the terror group during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and ambassador Sergey Kislyak at the White House.

Donald Trump has admitted he shared information about "terrorism and airline flight safety" with Russian Federation. The administration told the media that Comey was let go after seeking the recommendation of top Justice Department officials, but Trump eventually told NBC News' Lester Holt that he planned to fire Comey all along.

On the House side, CIA Director Mike Pompeo is expected to brief that chamber's intelligence committee on Tuesday on Trump's apparent leaking.

Trump's tweets Tuesday morning indicated that he did share some information with his Russian visitors.

The CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence have declined to comment.

GOP Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told reporters the Trump White House "has got to do something soon to bring itself under control and order". As the Trump administration knows all too well, when you have a lot of staff talking to reporters, a president whose tweets can not be contained, and a press with an insatiable need to pounce on and criticize the president, it creates a fragile environment and the result is often nothing less than chaos.

He did not address whether the information he shared was classified.

Whatever risks arose here, McMaster claimed, came not from the president's disclosures but from "those releasing information to the press" that can be used "to make American citizens and others more vulnerable". The nature of specific threats was discussed, he said, but not sources, methods or military operations. "We had a very, very successful meeting with the foreign minister of Russian Federation".

Trump is set to visit Israel during his first foreign trip that begins later this week, including a meeting with Netanyahu.

The revelations could further damage Trump's already fraught relationship with USA intelligence agencies.

The meeting happened the day after Mr Trump sacked Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey , who was in charge of investigating whether the President's campaign colluded with Russian Federation to swing the election. So far no one in the GOP's leadership on Capitol Hill is calling for an independent investigation or a special committee to investigate any Trump ties to Russian Federation. They want the White House to overreact and sidetrack the message designed for the visit. No ally or outside nation would even know, unless someone from the inside spread that information around.
