Several tornadoes touch down in the Plains, Midwest during severe weather Tuesday

Two people were killed Tuesday - one in Wisconsin and another in Oklahoma - following tornadoes and severe storms that ripped through several states.

Tornadoes reportedly touched down in five states Tuesday night, including Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas, in addition to Wisconsin.

According to the National Weather Service, almost 300 preliminary severe weather reports filed in from Wisconsin to Texas, spanning Tuesday afternoon to early Wednesday.

Strong winds caused a small plane to flip over at Eppley Airport in Omaha, Nebraska, Tuesday, NWS reports. He also added that when the responders first came to the scene there were a lot of people yelling and asking for help.

Officials from Wisconsin Emergency Management, Department of Natural Resources, State Patrol and many other state agencies will be on standby and continue to monitor severe weather inside the Emergency Operations Center. More than two dozen people were injured as the tornado felled trees and tossed cars and trailers about.

"It's a mess", Fitzgerald told the Leader-Telegram of Eau Claire.

The National Weather Service in Norman has not yet released information about the strength of the tornado, but tweeted early Wednesday that it will be surveying the damage. The circulation and high winds in a tornado can easily rip or even toss a mobile home, which frequently would not have a foundation. Entire subdivisions were lost and 25 people were injured.

"There's certainly no attraction to a mobile home park", Hultiquist said.

Chetek Mayor Jeff Martin told KSTP-TV that numerous emergency vehicles went to the trailer park. "And so I would say there was probably six to eight trailers in a row but there's nothing there but debris", said the sheriff for Barron County, Chris Fitzgerald. "And it's just wonderful to see it".

The images of the devastation has WCCO viewers Courtenay from Maple Grove and Gabriel from Oakdale wanting to know: Do tornadoes hit mobile homes more often?

He and his wife, Shelly, tended to several injured trailer park residents, applying ice packs and cleaning up blood as best they could.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Umscheid says radar images suggest the storm may have produced other brief, rain-wrapped tornadoes as it moved over rural farmland.

At least one person has been killed by a tornado that roared through a portion of a western Oklahoma town.

The storm hit the Cameron trailer park at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Rescue workers who shed softball uniforms and dress clothes and put on their fire gear raced to the scene Monday and went door to door to rescue people, Fitzgerald said.

"Once you get between 90 and 120 miles per hour, that's enough to destroy a mobile home", Hultiquist said.
