Trump to head overseas without announcing new FBI director

Trump is leaving Friday for his first foreign trip, to the Mideast and beyond, and aides had hoped the disarray at home would have been calmed if not resolved, allowing the White House to refocus and move ahead. He said an announcement could come "soon" and that former Sen.

Trump confirmed when he was asked if Lieberman, the Democrat-turned-independent senator from CT was a top candidate, CNN reported. The White House is disputing a report that President Donald Trump asked C.

The White House has denied the allegations.

Speaking to reporters today, Trump said the longtime Connecticut Senator is the "frontrunner" to replace James Comey, who was sacked last week by the President.

Those were two of the four names the White House said Mr. Trump was considering to replace James B, Comey, who was sacked last week.

Trump came under criticism for firing Comey as he was supervising the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and any possible links between the Trump and Russian Federation during the campaign. But Lieberman, 75, is not necessarily popular with Democrats.

After serving the Democratic party for years, Lieberman spoke at the 2008 Republican National Convention - still as an Independent - on behalf of then-presidential candidate John McCain. He did not seek re-election in 2012.
