Trump tweet-warns Comey 'before he starts leaking'

Clapper said he has no insight as to what was discussed between Comey and Trump at a dinner, but said going to dinner with the president would not be unusual.

The Trump administration is looking to fill the job, which requires Senate confirmation, after Trump abruptly fired Director James Comey on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump had an interesting idea for solving the problem of inaccuracies from his White House communications team: have them stop talking.

President Donald Trump asked James Comey to pledge loyalty to him during a one-on-one dinner days after his January inauguration, multiple sources close to the ousted Federal Bureau of Investigation director told both the New York Times and NBC News. Dick Durbin and Dianne Feinstein are calling on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to resign if no special prosecutor is named to replace ousted FBI Director James Comey in the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 United States election. Trump's tweet came the morning after he asserted Comey had told him three times that he wasn't under FBI investigation.

He tweeted, "As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with flawless accuracy!" Trump said in a tweet that he followed up in a second missive: "Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???"

Several US senators have criticized the decision, calling it an attempt by Trump to affect the FBI investigation into the alleged Russian hacking during US Presidential election.

Asked if the decision or an announcement could take place before he leaves for Saudi Arabia on Friday, Trump said: "Even that is possible". He said that while he received a scathing assessment of Comey's performance from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Monday, that memo was not a catalyst for his dramatic decision as the White House had said earlier. In testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee Thursday, McCabe said he was unaware of the request - and that he believed the FBI had adequate resources for the investigation.

"We have got to make sure that these tapes, if they exist, don't mysteriously disappear", Warner said, adding that he hopes to have Comey testify in a public hearing before his committee.

"Even that is possible", he told reporters when asked whether he could announce his nominee by Friday, when he is scheduled to leave for the Mideast and Europe.

That's far different that the White House's initial account in the hours after Comey's firing. She also was deputy special counsel to the Senate special committee that investigated President Bill Clinton's Whitewater scandal.

When the White House's defense of the move failed to meet his ever-changing expectations, Trump tried to take over himself.

Again, the story that there was collusion between the Russians & Trump campaign was fabricated by Dems as an excuse for losing the election.
