17Th arrest made in Manchester terror attack probe

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said they were unable to confirm or deny Abedi's contact with the terror group as it was an ongoing investigation.

Police investigating the Manchester bombing have arrested a 17th person as part of their enquiries into the terror attack.

He is the eight person to be released from United Kingdom custody without any further action, while another ten remain in cells.

Images and video posted to social media showed officers making the arrest, and cars being towed from the forecourt.

The man was arrested in the inner-city Manchester neighborhood of Rusholme.

Ismail Abedi was filmed being handcuffed to a police van outside a Morrisons supermarket in Chorlton-Cum-Hardy, south Manchester on May 23. Both men were questioned by anti-terrorism police for a week but were released without charge. Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson said: "This is potentially a significant development in the investigation". The new information, reported Saturday by The New York Times sheds new light on the deadly May 22 bombing that killed 22 civilians and injured more than 100.

Abedi was born in Manchester to Libyan parents, who moved back to Tripoli in recent years, along with his younger siblings.

Libyan authorities took Abedi's father and younger brother into custody.
