The Augusta Chronicle is reporting no serious injuries as of 12:30 p.m.

A quake just after 2a.m. Monday measured a magnitude 2.9 and was centered 6 miles northwest of Mankato in Jewell County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake has been upgraded in intensity from its earlier report of 3.0 magnitude. The agency is still working to assess any damage that may have resulted but it said the shaking motion likely triggered home and business alarms, according to spokeswoman Dee Griffin. It was felt in Beech Island, Warrenville and even Aiken, the USGS reported. However, Augusta-Richmond County EMS says there is no indication that additional tremors will be experienced in the area.

A magnitude 3.0 natural disaster in South Augusta has been felt and heard across the area.

While earthquakes have been felt in the Charleston metropolitan area, it is a rare occurrence.

On May 25, in northwest Georgia just south of Lafayette, a 2.5 magnitude quake was recorded, according to the USGS.
