Alexander Zverev completes shock win over Novak Djokovic in Rome

"I spoke to Andre the last couple weeks on the phone, and we chose to get together in Paris", Djokovic said. So he's gonna be there. We'll see what future brings.

He split with co-coach Boris Becker last December after three years and the former champion sharply criticized Djokovic's lack of desire.

Djokovic had said the "shock therapy" of splitting with his backroom team, including Marian Vajda - who has been with him through nearly all of his career - would help achieve better results.

German Alexander Zverev imposed his game on four-time Rome champion Novak Djokovic yesterday to earn an emphatic 6-4, 6-3 title victory and the first Masters 1000 trophy of his career.

The 20-year-old Zverev won 6-4 6-3 to become the youngest player to win an ATP 1000 tournament since Djokovic, aged 19 in Miami, a decade ago.

Djokovic, who turns 30 on Monday, has struggled since winning the French Open past year, which completed a run of four titles in Grand Slam tournaments.

Djokovic had to play twice on Saturday to make into the final, with a ruthless 6-1, 6-0 win over Dominic Thiem after finishing his quarterfinal against Juan Martin del Potro earlier in the day. The Serbian committed 27 unforced errors to 14 for Zverev, who also had 16 winners to the Serb's 11.

"It's nice to know that I can compete and play and win the biggest tournaments on tour against the biggest players on tour", Zverev said.

"You're an wonderful player".

"Everything just came together and I'm very happy that it's happened in such a big tournament", said Svitolina.

Zverev himself broke in the very first game against an opponent who appeared drained after having to win two matches on Saturday to reach the final.

"I wish you go on to win many of these titles", Djokovic told the young German.

"If I have only half of the career Novak has had, I'll be fine", Zverev said when asked if he can follow in Djokovic's footsteps. The former world no.1 has won a total of 12 Grand Slam titles, which include six Australian Open, three Wimbledon, and two US Open titles, and his latest was past year at the French Open.

Raonic, who was a 2014 semi-finalist in Rome, didn't face a single break point Thursday against Tomas Berdych but was broken four times by the up-and-coming 20-year-old Zverev, who is ranked No. 17 in the world.

Svitolina's 4-6 7-5 6-1 victory meant she added the Rome crown to the ones she took in Taipei, Dubai and Istanbul.

Djokovic suggested he would look to employ another super coach after parting with his long-term coaching staff this month, but the former world No. 1 said he would take his time before making an appointment.
