British police identify London attackers, make more arrests

Britain will vote in a national election on Thursday, just days after militants killed seven people and injured almost 50 in the heart of London on Saturday night, the third attack in Britain in less than three months. She called it "an evil ideology" that perverts Islam and perverts the truth. Police moved quickly and killed the attackers, but seven people died in the rampage, and dozens were injured, 21 of them seriously.

"We in this country have faced a terrorist threat throughout my life - it changed and morphed and we will change and adapt to what appears to be a new reality for us", she said.

"A detachment of fighters from Islamic State carried out London attacks", the Amaq news agency said following the attack.

After the May 22 attack in the UK city of Manchester, the threat level in the United Kingdom was raised from "severe" to "critical", but a short while later reduced back to "severe".

"At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is 'no reason to be alarmed!'"

Their names will be released "as soon as operationally possible" as police investigate whether they were part of a wider network, the BBC reported, citing police officials.

"A number of people have been detained", police said in a statement after two early morning raids in east London.

"A total of 36 ... patients [are] now being cared for in five London hospitals, and of these 18 remain in a critical condition", the National Health Service said.

On Saturday night in London, three men drove a white van into a group of pedestrians on London Bridge. As well as being responsible for policing in the capital, she is also in charge of coordinating counter-terrorism nationally.

The country's major political parties had temporarily suspended campaigning ahead of the general election but Ms May said the vote would take place as scheduled on Thursday because "violence can never be allowed to disrupt the democratic process".
