Brothers in arms: Curry pays tribute to Iverson in NBA Finals

Turnovers committed by Kyrie Irving and the Cavaliers proved costly in Game 1, as the Warriors scored 21 points of those mistakes. He continues to work with Brown and others on game plans as well.

Up 3-1 around this time last season, the Warriors lost three in a row, the first team ever in an NBA Finals to do that and had to watch the Cavs celebrate a title on their floor.

The Cleveland Cavaliers hung with the Golden State Warriors to start Game 1 of the NBA Finals, but sooner rather than later, the Warriors ran away for the victory.

But someone from Cleveland, maybe many someones, had better find a way to make life tougher for the Warriors going forward starting on Sunday. You always, always stop the ball first. "You'll definitely see them doing a better job in that area".

Beyond the turnovers - which stood out in contrast to the Warriors' record-low four - it was nearly laughable at times how the Cavaliers abandoned the paint defensively as they tried to avoid getting killed by the Warriors 3-point shooting.

The Cavs committed 20 turnovers compared to just four by the Warriors, who like to play at warp speed. The first team that tried to compete against Golden State, the Portland Trail Blazers, became the Warriors first victim of the postseason. "They did a good job of switching out on pin-downs".

Cleveland was held to just 34.9 percent shooting in the first meeting.

For context, the Warriors are a ideal 13-0 - never been done before in the National Basketball Association playoffs - are blowing out teams more so than any in playoff history on a nightly basis.

Solving the Durant issue may be at the top of the list for Cleveland going forward, but it's one of many for the defending champions as they face a seemingly impossible task. But Thursday, in game one of the 2017 Finals, Iverson was there - in a way.

"We could be a lot better than we were tonight but in the Finals you get a 'W, ' we'll take it", Durant said. "They got downhill, got to the spots where they wanted to go", Love said.

James and the Miami Heat beat Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder 4-1 in the 2012 Finals, and after Game 1 Thursday James is still 18-6 lifetime against Durant.

“If I score six points a game and it gets us four wins and an National Basketball Association championship, I can do that every year, ” Thompson said. He played only 22 minutes. "We naturally felt like we could have played better, taken the game to them a little bit more and also play with a better pace".

Durant, a former MVP who is new this season to a Cavs-Warriors Finals rivalry that's in its third installment, shot 14-of-26 from the field and contributed eight rebounds and eight assists.

Forget all the things that Cleveland did wrong offensively in Game 1, the poor shooting and the 20 turnovers and how the bench basically contributed nothing and how Rihanna got - and merited - more commentary from ABC's Jeff Van Gundy than J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson did. And that's what gave Kevin a chance to get five offensive rebounds.

"So, 13-0 and they constantly break records every year", Lue said.

One can also assume that will change in Game 2.
