Erdoğan says demand to shutdown Turkey's military base in Qatar unacceptable

The four countries claim that Qatar backs extremist forces in the region, including Islamist parties, and say its regional policies attempt to undermine their collective security for Doha's own gain. The 13 requirements include shutting the Al-Jazeera TV network, cutting back diplomatic ties with Iran, severing relations with the Muslim Brotherhood and ending Turkey's military presence in Qatar, according to a Gulf official who confirmed the veracity of the document, asking not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.

"The alternative is not escalation, the alternative is parting of ways, because it is very hard for us to maintain a collective grouping", UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash told reporters.

A coalition of Sunni Arab nations including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE have imposed a boycott on the small Persian Gulf nation and given it 10 days to respond to a 13-point ultimatum.

-Hand over "terrorist figures" and wanted individuals from the four countries. On Saturday, the head of the government communications office, Sheikh Saif Al Thani, said the demands were aimed at "limiting Qatar's sovereignty, and outsourcing our foreign policy" and were not reasonable, as called for by the USA state department.

The United Arab Emirates has said the list was meant to be confidential, and it has accused Qatar of leaking it to the press in a sign of bad faith.

- Curb diplomatic ties with Iran, and limit trade and commerce.

Faced with a sweeping set of demands, Qatar insisted Friday it can indefinitely survive the economic and diplomatic steps its neighbors have taken to try to pressure it into compliance, even as a top Emirati official warned the tiny country to brace for a long-term economic squeeze.

As a measure to lower the terrorist threat, Qatar is expected to stop naturalization of citizens from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrein and Egypt, as well as to give out all the criminals, those countries are searching for. But so far the White House, state department and Pentagon have not appeared to be in agreement on how to proceed. The US military agreed to a deal for up to 36 F-15 fighter jets last week, and completed joint naval exercises with Qatari forces.

The four Arab states cut ties with Qatar over allegations that it funds terrorism - an accusation Doha rejects but that U.S. president Donald Trump has echoed. Qatar is home to the largest US base in the region, Al-Udeid, and Bahrain is home to the Fifth Fleet of the United States Navy.

A top Emirati diplomat said on Saturday that USA and European guarantees would be needed to monitor any future agreement aimed at ending a row between Qatar and its neighbours.

"We believe it's a family issue and that they should work out". Also on June 23, the White House said it considers the deepening crisis in the Gulf to be primarily "a family issue", urging regional leaders to chart a way out while offering US help in enabling talks.
