'Every police officer' in Georgia searching for fugitives

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said: 'I saw two brutally murdered corrections officers, that's what I saw.

Dubose and Rowe allegedly overpowered two correctional officers, Curtis Billue and Christopher Monica.

Authorities in Putnam County, Ga., say a manhunt is underway for two prison inmates who are described as "dangerous beyond description".

After shooting the two guards, Dubose and Rowe carjacked the "first auto that came by", Sills said, - a green, 2004 Honda.

Officials are urging the public to not to approach Rowe and Dubose if they see them and to call 911 immediately. They hijacked the bus between Sparta and Eatonton. They are believed to be traveling in a 2004 Honda Civic 4 door with GA license plate RBJ660 and grass green in color. He also had a robbery charge in Gwinnett County in that same month.

Asked how the two suspect prisoners may have been able to overpower the guards, Dozier said, "We have secure vehicles and that should not have happened".

Oconee County released an updated mug shot of Dubose showing multiple face tattoos including crown tattoos over both eyebrows, a massive neck tattoo running from beneath his chin to his shirt line and another behind his right ear. Curtis Billue had worked for the state department of corrections as a guard for 11 years and lived in Milledgeville, according to his brother.

"My biggest worry is they're going to kill somebody else", Mr Sills said.

Sheriff Sills says an intense manhunt focused on Madison after two men fitting the inmates' description were seen entering a Family Dollar store there, less than a mile from a house that was burglarized.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is offering a $60,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of these escapees.

"Everything is happening as we speak", she told The Telegraph by telephone.

Sills added: 'They need to surrender before we find them'.

'I have their blood on my shoes'.

"We see our officers as our family", Corrections Commissioner Greg Dozier said.

Rowe had two prior convictions for burglary, robbery and grand theft auto and was sentenced in 2002 to life without parole, followed by an additional five years.

Separately, four Oklahoma inmates, including a suspected murderer, escaped from the state's Lincoln County Jail on Monday.

It is standard protocol to have two officers - armed but not wearing ballistic vests - transport prisoners on a bus, said Dozier with GDOC.

In Washington, Rod Rosenstein, deputy director of the U.S. Department of Justice, referred to the killings while speaking to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

"Today, two families lost everything in a heinous and senseless act of violence perpetrated at the hands of cowards", Deal said in a statement.

The two inmates got a head start by taking and tossing the Honda driver's cellphone and leaving the other 31 prisoners locked inside the bus, Sills said.
