Face of evil: Cops confirm name of 3rd London terrorist

The three terrorists on Saturday night drove into pedestrians on London Bridge before going on a knife rampage through Borough Market.

Speaking at the same central London venue where she launched her bid for the Conservative leadership a year ago, the prime minister stressed the importance of strong leadership as Britain deals with the threat of Islamist extremism and heads into Brexit talks with the European Union.

May characterized the latest attack as the work of Islamic extremists, but no group has yet claimed responsibility.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian is due to visit Britain on Monday to speak to the injured French nationals, after President Emmanuel Macron said France was "more than ever at Britain's side".

"My understanding is that, without hesitation, wearing his normal clothes, he dived in and tried to assist, and he I'm afraid was himself severely injured but utterly heroic", she said.

The assailants ran people over on London Bridge before lunging seemingly at random at the crowds gathered around Borough Market, which is full of restaurants and bars.

Neighbors at the site of one raid in Barking said a man who lived there resembled one of the attackers shown in news photographs.

The country's major political parties temporarily suspended campaigning with only days to go before the general election.

Australian Kirsty Boden was also killed after she ran towards people being attacked to try to help them, according to a statement released by her family.

Police shot and killed the three attackers within eight minutes of receiving an emergency call, police said. ISIS has urged supporters to weaponize vehicles in attacks against the West.

This is the third attack in Britain in as many months.

"A security detachment from Islamic state carried out London attacks yesterday" the Amaq news agency, which is affiliated with the terrorist organisation, said.

Dozens of people gathered in driving rain at the end of London Bridge, where a growing mound of flowers sits beside a police cordon.

Less than two weeks ago, a suicide bomber killed 22 children and adults at a concert by US singer Ariana Grande in Manchester in northern England.

May, who served as Britain's interior minister from 2010 to 2016, said there was too much tolerance of extremism in Britain.

"At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is 'no reason to be alarmed!'", he said in one tweet. One of the three attackers that killed seven people in London on Saturday was refused asylum in Britain but was able to remain there through a European Union residence card granted in Ireland, Irish state broadcaster RTE reported today.
