Federer to face Zverev in his 11th Halle final

In the semi-final, he eased past his Russian opponent Karen Khachanov 6-4 7-6 (5), to reach his 11th final in Halle.

Federer has yet to drop a set in Halle where he was playing his 13th consecutive semifinal on Saturday.

Eight-time champion Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev clash in a battle of generations on Sunday, June 25 (Monday in Manila time) in the final of the Halle tournament with the Swiss superstar looking to make a mockery of their 15-year age gap. The Russian then missed two set points before Federer took it to the tiebreaker.

"I thought it was extremely close, especially that second set", Federer, who has never won a tournament nine times, told reporters.

The 20-year-old Zverev realises beating Federer would give him a major confidence booster ahead of the 2017 Wimbledon starting July 3.

Fourth seed Zverev has already won three titles this year and stayed in the hunt for another by coming from behind to defeat Richard Gasquet 4-6 6-4 6-3.

Petra Kvitova, the two-time Wimbledon champion who is making a courageous comeback from injury, will face unseeded giant-killer Ashleigh Barty in the final of the Birmingham grass court tournament.

It should be a close match but expect Federer to have just too much for Zverev, and to claim his 9th Gerry Weber title, but he may have to go to three sets to get the victory.

"I really had to fight in defence, but maybe it's not so bad to survive like this on grass".

In May, he announced he would be missing the French Open and the rest of the clay-court season to concentrate on the grass and hard-court seasons.

"He's the best of all time on this surface", Zverev said of facing Federer, whom he beat in the semifinals a year ago.

He converted his first match point to reach an 11th Halle final.

"Everything has been geared toward that for the past 12 months and I'm happy with how I feel at the moment", Federer concluded.
