'Handmaids' descend upon Hill to protest health care bill

But American nonprofit organisation for the protection of reproductive healthcare, Planned Parenthood, has recently shown how decisions being made by the current USA government could actually be seen as worrying steps in the right direction for a Handmaid's Tale-esque reality to become the country's future. "It's a healthcare bill with no healthcare".

Fern Whyland, communications director at Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts, said the Republican Obamacare replacement bill would "devastate" women. Women here are treated as nothing more than wives, servants, or breeders, referred to as "handmaids"; with Offred being one of these women denigrated and exploited for her fertility in ongoing efforts to repopulate the country, though she still fights for her freedom and for the husband and child snatched away from her.

Planned Parenthood volunteers dressed up in "Handmaid's Tale" costumes in protest of the health care bill Tuesday.

If passed, the GOP Senate bill would cut health insurance for approximately twenty-two million people, with the elderly and low income citizens being the most affected.

The proposed Better Care Reconciliation Act would completely defund Planned Parenthood for one year, affecting all medical services, including cancer screenings and smear tests. It would affect women and reproductive health - and not in a good way.

The Hill reporter Taylor Lorenz photographed the handmaids, who held Planned Parenthood signs and a large banner, and said they planned to shout "Shame" at the GOP senators exiting the Capitol.

As it stands, the bill has been delayed as a result of resistance against it, hence groups like Planned Parenthood are doing what they can to mount even further pressure on the government in a bid to get them to scrap it.
