Jeff Sessions Will Testify Publicly On The Russia Scandal On Tuesday

Sources said Comey also told senators privately that Sessions may have had a third and undisclosed meeting with the Russian ambassador during the campaign, which the DOJ denies.

Media reports last week said Sessions offered to resign because of tensions with Trump over his decision to recuse himself from the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

Critics charged that by firing Comey on 9 May, Trump was trying to hinder the FBI's Russian Federation probe and the ex-FBI chief added fuel to that accusation with his testimony last week.

Warren emphatically believes that Sessions' involvement in Comey's dismissal would be a violation of his recusal.

In response to Comey's testimony, Sessions issued a statement contradicting some of what Comey said.

The U.S. attorney general requested to appear before that committee instead of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, which he was originally scheduled to appear before on Tuesday.

In an interview Monday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends", Ivanka Trump says political life still surprises her and that "there is a level of viciousness I was not expecting".

Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, a member of the Intelligence committee, sent a letter to Senator Chuck Grassley, urging him to investigate possible obstruction of justice by Trump in Grassley's position as chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Comey, who was overseeing the investigation, was sacked by President Trump in May, in part due to a letter from Sessions questioning his handling of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while serving as Secretary of State.

But while Sessions says he wants to address the "matters" brought up by Comey during his testimony last Thursday, Democrats are aiming for a broader line of questioning that will include his meetings with the Russian ambassador to Washington during the 2016 presidential campaign and his role in Comey's firing on May 9.

Democrats will be keen to press Sessions on his role in Comey's dismissal, which many in the party are characterizing as part of an attempt by the president to impede the investigation into his campaign's ties to Russian Federation. Sessions claims the meetings were unrelated to his work as a Trump advisor, and occurred only as part of his normal duties as a Senator. Comey spoke of receiving pressure from President Donald Trump to drop a probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation.

"I believe the James Comey leaks will be far more prevalent than anyone ever thought possible", Trump tweeted over the weekend.

The New York City federal prosecutor who expected to remain on the job when Trump took office but ended up being fired said he was made uncomfortable by one-on-one interactions with the president - just like Comey was.

But intelligence committee members at first were unaware of a planned hearing. He was also surprised at the Executive's justifications regarding his mismanagement of an investigation on the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton´s emails and loss of confidence of FBI agents.
