Macron, tweaking Trump, says 'Make our planet great again'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the decision by Trump to withdraw from the climate accord "can't and won't stop all those of us who feel obliged to protect the planet".

A top European Union official says the EU and China believe that President Donald Trump made a mistake by pulling the United States out of a landmark worldwide climate agreement.

Yet other governments with smaller economies than the USA have invested significant amounts too.

A source pointed out that Japan and Canada had not signed up to the letter and said the prime minister's approach was "consistent as to how we approach dealings with worldwide leaders".

"Trump's decision to ditch the Paris deal will leave a fairly big shoe for a single country to fill", Xinhua said, adding that major players such as China, the European Union and India had reiterated their willingness to step up efforts.

"She [May] said the Paris agreement provides the right global framework for protecting the prosperity and security of future generations, while keeping energy affordable and secure for our citizens and businesses", the spokesperson said.

Trump said as of today, the United States will cease all implementation of the nonbinding Paris accord and the draconian financial and economic burdens the agreement imposes on the US. Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas said in an interview with The Associated Press that the Paris accord "was, and still is a very important goal to achieve".

On Thursday, President Donald Trump announced that he will pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement on climate change, and Jimmy Kimmel didn't waste any time giving his thoughts on the controversial move.

"We at Under Armour are disappointed by the Administration's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement as climate change continues to threaten our planet, our cities and our economies".

"As of today, the United States will cease all implementation of the non-binding Paris accord, and the draconian financial and economic burdens the agreement imposes on our country", he said in an address in the White House Rose Garden.

Merkel, whose country hosts this year's global climate summit, said Trump's decision was "extremely regrettable and that's putting it very mildly".

The world's leader in environmental protection, while imposing no meaningful obligations on the world's leading polluters, he alleged. Almost every other country in the world is formally on board, with plans to make serious cuts in carbon pollution in the coming decades. Leaving it won't bring coal mining jobs back to Pennsylvania.

"The rest of the world applauded when we signed the Paris Agreement".
