An Alabama mail carrier faces up to 10 years in prison for allegedly feeding a dog meatballs that contained nails. Postal Service worker has been suspended from work and charged with a class C felony after allegations of cruelty to animals.

Susanna Dawn Burhans was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and released on a $2,500 bond by the Madison County Sheriff's office on June 1.

The investigation began with a complaint almost two weeks ago, Salomonsky said. He became anxious about his dog Missy, and X-rays later showed that nails were inside the dog's stomach.

The U.S. Postal Service said it is aware of the situation and is investigating but had no other comment as of this writing.

He told north Alabama news station WHNT that he found one of the meatballs on the ground and noticed the nails in it which prompted him to take his dog, Missy, to the vet.

Further details haven't been released. When Glover discovered that the meatball was full of nails, he feared that Burhans had already fed one to his dog, Missy. Though delivering mail may not sound like a particularly unsafe job, having to deal with guard dogs of homes they deliver to isn't such an easy feat.

The dog's condition was not reported. It was followed by San Diego with 57 attacks and Long Beach with 22.

'Right now, we know for sure there's one dog. He hopes Burhans does not return to her job as a mail carrier.
