Newtown families upset by interview with conspiracy theorist

JP Morgan Chase has requested its advertising be removed from NBC's Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly newsmagazine show that features an interview with Alex Jones.

Kelly is feeling backlash to her upcoming Father's Day interview with controversial Infowars host Alex Jones, the man who contends the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre was orchestrated by the US government.

In a preview (below) for the interview, which will air June 18, Kelly asks Jones about his claims about the shooting.

She defended interviewing Jones, known for pushing conspiracy theories, by noting that President Trump has praised him and has been on his show.

"There is no justification for amplifying lies (or a liar), particularly about unimaginable tragedy", Chelsea Clinton tweeted. Since then, she's faced a heap of criticism.

Alex's conspiracy theory about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, which happened in 2012, as reported by the New York Times, claims that Sandy Hook was really a hoax created to take away gun rights via the Second Amendment.

He once alleged the parents of the 20 slain children were just actors. "I'm exhausted of being misrepresented", Mr. Jones said.

But that explanation didn't cut it. Nelba Márquez-Greene, a mother who was asked on social media to show a picture of her daughter's dead body as proof of the attacks, was one of many who took exception with Kelly's response.

Jones has also helped push forward the theory that 9/11 was a "fable" and an "inside job" and other theories surrounding the Oklahoma City bombing as well as mass shootings in Orlando and Aurora, Colorado. But that was only because she was "a sociopath, a psychopath, I don't know". Infowars was given a temporary press credential last month.

"Our goal in sitting down with him was to shine a light, as journalists are supposed to do, on this influential figure and, yes, to discuss the considerable falsehoods he has promoted with near impunity", she said.

"When you say parents faked their children's deaths, people get upset", she said.

NY mayor Bill Blasio also called on NBC to "pull the segment".

But Kelly's interview with Erin Andrews for Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly was watched by only 4.35 million people as opposed to 60 Minutes, which scored 7.66 million total viewers.

"If Kelly tanks at 9 am she will also bring down Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb at 10am", warned the source.
