Nintendo Super NES Classic Edition 2017

As excited as we were to hear Nintendo announce the SNES Classic Edition, it wasn't long until flashbacks of the NES Classic Edition began to set in, leaving us in a cold sweat that we'd soon face a repeat performance of the retro system's disappointingly short production run.

Super NES Classic Edition has the same look and feel of the original system - only smaller - and comes pre-loaded with 21 incredible Nintendo games.

The original Super Nintendo Entertainment System, launched in 1990, sold 50 million units worldwide. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition will be priced at $79.99 (or approx Rs. 5155) when it goes on sale on September 29. The marketing ploy was supposedly meant to drum up publicity for the Japanese company, which launched its flagship new console, the Nintendo Switch, earlier this year.

Japanese video game company Nintendo will launch a new version of its legendary console Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

Much like how they've said that the discontinuation of the NES Classic Edition was due to their lack of "unlimited resources", Nintendo is once again singing the same tune.

The company has given a date for the release of this console but it's still not clear if Nintendo intends to keep producing the SNES consoles even after the end of 2017.

The design of the Japanese SNES Classic and the USA version are very different, like in the 90s.

For a grand total of US$79.99 (~S$111), you will gain access to 21 classic SNES games with notable titles like Star Fox 2, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past headlining the games selection.

Nintendo apparently did not anticipate that there would be a lot of buyers for the supposedly one-off limited product.

For some time, fans of old games have been creating game ROMs - read-only memory - that emulated the old titles so they could be played on a modern PC or other device.
