Rockets, Clippers Agree to Blockbuster Trade for Chris Paul

As Chris Paul was on the verge of arranging a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Houston Rockets, he was able to leave the underserved community of South Los Angeles with the gift of technology before departing. The Paul trade comes after Blake Griffin informed the team last week that he is opting out of the a year ago of his contract to explore free agency.

He then chose to opt in on the final year of his contract (worth $24 million) so that the Clippers could trade him to Houston, in exchange for Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, and L.A.'s minorly protected 2018 first round pick, according to Wojnarowski. If defenses focus on Harden and Paul - and who would blame them - Anderson will make them pay.

In five seasons with the Rockets, Beverley has averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game and is known as a defensive pest. The team also emerged from last week's National Basketball Association draft with two players after owner Steve Ballmer agreed to pay cash for the two second rounders: Oklahoma State point guard Jawun Evans and SC shooting guard Sindarius Thornwell.

It's hard to blame Paul for moving on from the Clippers, a team with little cap room or options to improve a team that appeared to have reached its ceiling.

Paul is gone. Shooting guard J.J. Redick is a free agent come July 1. In his career, he's averaged 20.4 points per game and 8.8 assists when facing the Mavericks.

A month ago, the prospect of Chris Paul not donning a LA Clippers jersey next season was beyond unfathomable. However, the opportunity to pair with James Harden toppled plans to have Paul re-sign and keep the Clippers All-Star core intact.

The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report the deal.

While Paul and Harden are certainly an impressive duo, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has his sights set on something bigger.

The Houston Rockets are still looking to add another All-Star piece to join James Harden and Chris Paul, per ESPN's Jeff Goodman.
