Senate Bill 240 is a measure that was sponsored by Clark County Republican Senator Becky Harris that was recently signed into law by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval. Adding legal betting to esports will undoubtedly generate new interest and audiences, albeit for different reasons. Esports betting has already been on the books for quite some time in Las Vegas, but now it's officially in the law meaning events which take part in Nevada, or on the books, can be betted on.

eSports and proposition bets on awards shows will be allowed in the state once the law goes into effect on the 1 of July.

What do you think about the new Senate Bill 240?

Under the provisions of the bill that has just become law, the current status quo of Nevada's gambling industry is to be modified, in order for existing pari-mutuel betting systems to include competitive gaming. The commission may also amend, repeal and adopt regulations related to the conduct of this wagering system. Instead, they've used the word "other events" which is listed alongside sports like dog and horse racing. The Downtown Grand esports lounge offered wagering on esports events for the first time in the U.S. in 2016, with support from the Gaming Control Board.

Of course, this is just the latest in a long line of efforts to make Las Vegas the next hotspot of esports, and especially on North American soil. The Luxor has plans to create a multi-tiered dedicated esports arena and a 15,000 square foot space has already been opened by Millennial. He detailed his training regime, which helped convince regulators that esports players are "athletes". "The Gambling Commission has significant resources and powers that will be invaluable in helping to combat any emergence of organized crime or serious fraud within our rapidly growing sector". The issue, however, was gambling with esports which has fallen under scrutiny for quite some time.
