Trump cheerleaders turn on special counsel Mueller

Christopher Ruddy, the founder of Newsmax Media and close friend of President Trump, told PBS News Hour Monday that he believes the president is "considering perhaps terminating" special counsel Robert Mueller, the man charged with investigating Russian interference in the USA election and possible collusion with Trump's campaign.

Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy tells Judy Woodruff of "PBS NewsHour": "I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel".

If President Donald Trump is truly thinking about firing special counsel Robert Mueller, he should reconsider and "don't waste our time", the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said Monday. "With respect to this subject, only the president or his attorneys are authorised to comment".

Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, "Chris speaks for himself".

Trump aides have reportedly been telling him to steer clear of such a dramatic escalation, but allies such as Newt Gingrich have begun talking up the idea of firing Mueller, which will likely help persuade the president that the move has merit.

"I personally think it would be it would be a very significant mistake, even though I don't think there's a justification. for a special counsel in this case", Ruddy added.

"I think he is weighing that option". He made the comments after being seen leaving the White House Monday.

"There's some real conflicts", Ruddy said.

On the other hand, Jay Sekulow, a member of Trump's legal team, suggested the possibility that the President could fire the special counsel if he believes that the Russian Federation probe is compromised.

"I've flown with him on his plane and I've gotten to know him pretty well through the years", Ruddy told RealClearPolitics in March.

Moreover, I agree with the source quoted by Byron York who says Mueller "could announce that the Comey part of the case will be handled by someone else within his office, but that is complex and not very satisfactory".

Under Justice Department regulations, firing Mueller would have to be done by Attorney General Jeff Sessions' deputy, Rod Rosenstein, not the president - though those regulations could theoretically be set aside.

According to Michael Isikoff, writing in 2006, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (then headed by Mueller) and an unnamed "senior Department of Justice official" were advised in October 2003 that Armitage was the man who leaked Plame's identity - and yet two months later upon his appointment to be Deputy Attorney General, James Comey appointed his friend Patrick Fitzgerald to investigate the leak.

Gingrich tweeted on Monday, "Republicans are delusional if they think the special counsel is going to be fair". "How can you go out and hire somebody who worked for the Clinton Foundation?"

Just weeks ago, Gingrich had heaped praise on Mueller, hailing him as a "superb choice" for special counsel whose reputation was "impeccable for honesty and integrity".

Sessions previously recused himself from any involvement in the Russian Federation investigation due to his role as a prominent campaign adviser and surrogate. Some of the words in her tweet were capitalized. In 2013, The Washingtonian detailed that close professional and personal history in Forged Under Fire-Bob Mueller and Jim Comey's Unusual Friendship.

The ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Democrat Adam Schiff, responded forcefully by saying Mueller would be brought back "immediately". Let's just say, firing Mueller wouldn't be a stretch for a president with an itchy trigger finger and no discernable conscience to speak of. Visit MarketWatch.com for more information on this news.
