Trump gloats as three CNN journalists quit over retracted story

CNN scrubbed its story published Thursday which linked the wealthy Trump ally to the sanctioned bank

The scandal started on late Friday after CNN published an anonymously sourced story claiming that the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating ties between a Russian investment firm and a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team.

In an article on the reporters' resignations, CNN wrote that "standard editorial processes were not followed when the article was published".

"In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story's publication", a spokesperson said Monday evening.

Bonifeld's comments were made public the day after head of CNN investigates, Lex Haris, resigned from the network along with two other journalists, Eric Lichtblau and Thomas frank.

"People are trying to attack us, trying to take us down", CNN President Jeffrey A. Zucker said in a newsroom conference call on Tuesday morning, according to a network employee who listened to the call and was granted anonymity to describe private remarks.

The story was posted Thursday on CNN's website. He lumped ABC, CBS, NBC, The New York Times and The Washington Post together in the same "fake news" category. And the president did not miss the opportunity that CNN's most recent misfire offered, tweeting frequently throughout the morning on Tuesday.

"Scaramucci tweeted: "@CNN did the right thing.

CNN says President Donald Trump is wrong to suggest the network is failing.

Responding to Trump's tweet, CNN tweeted: "CNN just posted its most-watched second quarter in history".

The self-proclaimed "most trusted name in news" took another hit yesterday when the right-wing Project Veritas released a hidden video that purported to show a CNN producer admitting that the network's exhaustive coverage of the Russian Federation scandal is "mostly bulls-t" and that Trump "is probably right to say, like, look you are witch-hunting me".

Bonifield explains how far CNN pushed the Russian Federation line, describing a meeting in which reporters were told by the CEO to stop covering climate accords, urging instead “Lets get back to Russian Federation.”. She called stories about Russian Federation and Trump "a hoax" that is distracting from other news.
