Trump thrusts US, Cuba back toward hostile relations

"It's a very big deal".

Ben Rhodes, the former deputy national security adviser who negotiated Obama's opening with the Cubans, said it was disappointing Trump was halting the momentum that had built but added that it could have been worse. Through today's actions, his Administration claims that he is honoring a campaign promise and fighting for the Cuban people.

The changes will make it more hard for people to travel from the Cuba and bar Americans from doing business with institutions owned by military services there.

"Everybody likes to go to Cuba".

Ferguson does believe Obama did succeed in creating something no policy could remove. "We call on Congress to permanently remove restrictions on travel and trade to Cuba by enacting the bipartisan measures introduced in the House and the Senate, the Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act of 2017 and the Cuba Trade Act of 2017, restoring the freedom to travel, trade and learn", Welch concluded. "Why Cuba? I don't get it".

"Additional prohibitions and oversight on travel will only confuse Americans and dissuade them from visiting Cuba, causing significant economic hardship to Cuban entrepreneurs and average Cuban families, as well as Americans working in the hospitality sector", a spokesman from educational exchange program company Cuba Educational Travel said.

"Any changes to the relationship between the United States and Cuba will depend on real progress toward these and the other goals". The new rules also prohibit Americans from spending money on businesses controlled by the military.

The U.S. severed ties with Cuba in 1961 after Fidel Castro's revolution, and spent decades trying to either overthrow the government or isolate the island, including by toughening an economic embargo first imposed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

"We do not want U.S. dollars to prop up a military monopoly that exploits and abuses the citizens of Cuba", Trump said, pledging that United States sanctions would not be lifted until Cuba frees political prisoners and holds free election.

The Trump order will have much tighter restrictions on travel than were in place during the Obama administration. U.S commercial planes would still fly to Cuba allowing U.S citizens to return back with the Cuban goods.

Travel Agents suggest anyone set to visit Cuba double check to make sure it isn't banned by the new policies.

"Tonight, Havana is open for business", Mitchell started her report before making gloomy predictions about the future of Cuba under Trump's new policy.

Cuban authorities warned US President Donald Trump on Friday that the reversal of the US policy toward the Caribbean island nation would fail.

Carlos Cristóbal Márquez, the restaurant's owner, watched Trump's announcement near to where President Barack Obama dined during his historic trip in March. This is meant to avoid hurting Americans who have made recent investments in Cuba.
