US Republicans, facing health care revolt, delay Senate vote

Another three senators joined the rebels hours later on Tuesday.

Republican senators from OH and West Virginia on Tuesday announced their opposition to the health care bill after the majority leader said a procedural vote would be delayed until after July 4. During a recent meeting with Republicans, the president revealed that it was alright if the Senate didn't pass the bill in question. It's a very complicated subject.

"We have pulled the ads we released earlier today in Nevada, and we remain hopeful that Senator Heller and his colleagues can agree on what the American people already know: that repealing and replacing Obamacare must happen for America to move forward and be great again", the statement said.

Some Republican opponents of the health law changes said the plan would cost too many poor Americans their insurance, while others thought the changes did not go far enough in overturning key provisions of the seven-year-old law championed by former President Barack Obama and popularly known as Obamacare.

"Consequently, we will not be on the bill this week, but we're still working toward getting at least 50 people in a comfortable place". In order for the bill to pass, Republicans can risk losing only two of their senators. Susan Collins (R-ME) explained.

The percentage of voters supporting the bill rises among Republican voters.

Dan Mahaffee, senior vice president and director of policy at the Center for the Study of Congress and the Presidency, told Xinhua that the Republican Party is going to have to very carefully thread the needle between the concerns of moderate Republican senators and those who are very conservative on both healthcare policy and spending.

McConnell's decision to delay the vote comes a day after the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that 22 million Americans would lose or drop health care coverage over the next decade under the GOP plan, as compared to current law. After that prediction, Collins tweeted her opposition. John Cornyn, R-Texas, speak to members of the media outside the West Wing of the White House on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

Mr McConnell vowed to continue to try to find the votes, and would make changes to the bill if necessary.

Trump added: "Some of the Fake News Media likes to say that I am not totally engaged in healthcare". "But if those things can be addressed, I will (support it)".

USA stock prices fell on Tuesday, as the decision to postpone the vote added to investor worries on whether the Trump administration can deliver on its promises of tax reform and deregulation, as well as changes to the health sector.

His declaration last week prompted a quick and harsh rebuke from America First Policies, a nonprofit run by veterans of Trump's successful White House campaign.

The advertisement asks viewers to call Sen. "I do not believe that Ronald Reagan would have supported this health care bill", Heller said. And they're really conscious of the fact that they still have not delivered to President Trump a major legislative win since he's come into office.
