They say the estimated firefighting costs now top $7 million for a fire started June 17 near the Brian Head Resort by someone using a torch tool to burn weeds. This Saturday, June 24, 2017, photo, shows a cabin near Panguitch Lake near Panguitch, Utah., that was not burned by a wildfire.

"Things change day to day", Mr Wilder said.

Hundreds of firefighters have been battling the wildfire, facing 100-foot flames along with very dry conditions and winds that have been gusting up to 30 miles per hour, leaving a "high potential" for "extreme" fire behavior, officials said late Monday.

The Brian Head Fire grew to more than 54,000 acres Tuesday night, but fire officials say anticipated strong winds weren't as bad as predicted and crews were able to increase the containment area to 10 percent.

"We thank the many courageous men and women who have stepped up and responded to wildfires around Arizona", Ducey said. Due to the incident in California, Highway 14 was forced to close down by the police authorities.

Utah Fire Info tweeted Wednesday that 276 of 303 wildfires sparked in the the state this year have been human-caused, and urged people to avoid using any objects that can spark a wildfire near dry vegitation.

The blaze, dubbed the Placerita Fire, swelled to roughly 800 acres but firefighters had managed to contains about half the blaze by 6 p.m.(0100 GMT), the Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted.

The Manzanita Fire started in Lambs Canyon, off Highway 79 N. near Dump Rd., Monday afternoon.

Officials ordered the evacuation of 1,400 residents in the central Arizona town of Mayer Tuesday afternoon as a large wildfire continued to advance on the area.

The fire, which is 10 percent contained, prompted voluntary evacuations for Highland Home Road, Death Valley Road, Longhorn Road and Shirleon Drive.

The current blaze is burning in chaparral that has not had a fire in more than 40 years, helping fuel its growth.

The blaze is one of several in the West. Crews in California were making gains against two new fires that spread quickly, and firefighters in Idaho battled five lightning-sparked wildfires burning in grass and brush.

More than 100 residents were forced to evacuate their Santa Clarita homes Tuesday when a blaze threatened 80 homes in the Southern California town.

Meanwhile in California, firefighters had two major blazes under enough control to allow evacuated residents to return to their homes.

The fire has burned over 28 square miles (73 square kilometers).

The Utah fire is the largest in the nation at 78 square miles (201 square kilometers).
