Warriors beat Cavaliers to clinch NBA title

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were too much for LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to handle, with the Golden State Warriors taking Game 5 129-120 and the National Basketball Association championship at Oracle Arena on Monday night.

He will be an unrestricted free agent in 2018 but no matter where James decides to play it is unlikely he can steer clear of a Warriors team positioned for greatness. Abdul-Jabbar was the league's MVP and scoring champion, averaging 31.7 points.

"I left everything on the floor every game, so I have no reason to put my head down", said James, who scored a game-high 41 points Monday. "He left it all out there on the floor, and to average a triple-double in the freaking Finals, man, add that to the LeBron long list that everyone keeps forgetting".

Cleveland star LeBron James played in his seventh consecutive Finals and eighth career Finals, falling to 3-5.

Though the Cavaliers led 37-33 at the end of the first quarter, Golden State soon reasserted their dominance by winning the second 38-23 to lead 71-60 at half-time. And 8-2 Cavaliers' run to close the half kept Cleveland competitive heading into the second stanza.

But the Cavs won that game en route to the largest series comeback (3-1) in Finals history. For those guys in the Hamptons recruiting Durant that day and all the others, they can't wait for more. "And that's all you can ask".

"They can never take away you being a champion". Kyrie Irving finished with 26 points but shot 9 for 22.

LBJ and Kyrie lead the way and Swish adds a spark with 25 points. Irving is under contract for two more years. "So just a test of will, a lot of individual adversity as well as collective adversity that leads all up to this moment".

"I knew it was going to be a battle I just tried to challenge him. you can't stop the guy". West, Thompson and J.R. Smith received technical fouls after a replay review. "But like I told everybody, if Kevin Durant was the consolation prize to lose, thanks for that loss and we champs this year". "Getting here isn't enough, especially once you've been here already multiple times". Kevin Love had a bad night with only 6 points.

Once again, the Cavaliers didn't get much from their bench outside of Richard Jefferson.

"My only caution would be let's not give up too much of our young core for one superstar because, like we just talked about before, let's not forget that those Golden State Warriors are just a little bit north of us and it's going to take a lot more than one superstar to dethrone them from the West".

Warriors point guard Stephen Curry said the experience of losing last year's Finals served them well this season.

LeBron James has now lost in the Finals five times and won three championships.

Cleveland got off to a fast start and built a 41-33 lead on a dunk by James early in the second quarter. Cleveland's subs have scored just two points.

By the Numbers - .630 ...

James-at his lowest ebb-was there to greet him, magnanimously. "I can't wait to celebrate with my teammates in the locker room".

"Does it always result in us winning?" "But for us to have these conversations that we had nearly a year ago and now being in this position, worth every shot we took in practice, fighting through injuries that he had this year, and it's an unbelievable feeling".

"I couldn't sleep for two days", Durant said.

This is the third straight year the Warriors and Cavs faced off in the Finals.
