What's in the Senate's new healthcare bill?

Several Democrats have admitted Obamacare needs fixing, but that abandoning it for the Republican replacement - known formally as the American Health Care Act - is not a viable option.

But the Senate bill preserves another, more popular, piece of Obamacare: the requirement that insurance companies cover everyone, even those with pre-existing medical conditions. So it's still a very hard battle for Senator McConnell to get this bill through.

Overall, though, Republicans say their version of health care will stabilize insurance markets and cut health care costs. "While we are still waiting for final numbers, every indication is that the plan unveiled by Senate Republicans will be even more devastating". Veteran Senator John McCain said the draft bill was better than Obamacare in "100 ways", but like many Senators wanted to study the bill further and consult with his state's governor.

"We agreed on the need to free Americans from Obamacare's mandate so Americans are no longer forced to buy insurance they don't need or can't afford", McConnell said on the Senate floor Thursday.

Warner told CBN News he wants to see both parties come together to fix health care.

Four Republican senators said they are unable for vote for the Senate's healthcare bill as written, jeopardizing its passage.

Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell has pushed for a vote on the bill next week, but at least four Republicans have publicly voiced their opposition to the bill.

"This bill is really, really harmful for low income individuals", says Janel George, director of federal reproductive rights and health at the National Women's Law Center.

America is better than that; we can take care of vulnerable Americans and still have a growing economy for the middle class and keep our country safe. At some point, over a period of years, the federal government would basically limit what it pays for Medicaid, which has always been a shared program between the states and the federal government.

If the bill is signed into law, millions of low-income and working-class Americans stand to feel the effects most acutely.

Other Republicans in the Senate are reserving their complete support, saying they require more time to digest the 142-page bill and consider its implications.

A Congressional Budget Office analysis of the bill will be available early next week, with McConnell pushing for a vote Thursday, before the July 4 recess.

Sandoval said he would do "everything in my power" to make sure those people can maintain the quality of life they now have.
